Course Syllabus | The aim of the course is to define the birth of the historical and critical debate on the figurative arts in relation to poetry and science through the main historical-artistic literary sources from the fourteenth to the sixteenth century. Together with the first testimonies provided by artists, we will focus on those of the fathers of Italian literature, starting with Dante and the passages of the Comedy, in particular between the 10th and 12th canto of Purgatory and, specifically, on the figure of the miniaturist Oderisi from Gubbio; to then continue with the positions of Petrarca, Boccaccio, Sacchetti, Villani, Vergerio. It will then continue with the analysis and commentary of the main art writers of the 15th and 16th centuries, including great artists (Alberti, Filarete, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Vasari, Lomazzo) and religious figures (Colonna, Pacioli, Savonarola, the treatises of the Counter-Reformation). |
