| Obiettivi formativi | Conoscenze e abilità da acquisire: 1. Conoscenza e capacità di inquadramento critico dei nessi di base tra produzione artistica e società nell’età moderna, con uno sguardo d’insieme sull’estetica dei media. 2. Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate alla lettura di opere d’arte e prodotti dell’industria culturale dal secolo XVIII alla realtà contemporanea. 3. Autonomia di giudizio nel combinare le informazioni storiche, critiche e tecniche inerenti le trasformazioni verificatesi in Europa nel campo artistico. Capacità di organizzare un percorso autonomo di comprensione e descrizione dei fenomeni studiati. Lettura delle strutture della concezione storiografica nei prodotti culturali legati ai mass media (in particolare nel cinema). 4. Abilità comunicative nell’esporre gli argomenti del programma mediante un uso appropriato e corretto della lingua italiana, e delle lingue inglese, francese e spagnolo almeno nella pronuncia dei termini, dei titoli di opere e dei nomi ascoltati durante le lezioni o letti sui testi d’esame. 5. Capacità di apprendere gli elementi fondamentali della materia ad un grado che consenta di proseguire gli studi successivi, con la possibilità di affrontare un lavoro di tesi di laurea. |
| Prerequisiti | Buona conoscenza della Storia moderna e della Storia dell'arte moderna e contemporanea. Si consiglia la lettura di testi relativi alla regalità come G. Sodano, "Elisabetta Farnese. Duchessa di Parma, regina consorte di Spagna, matrona d'Europa", Roma, Salerno Editrice, 2022. |
| Metodi didattici | Lezioni frontali, esercitazioni/seminari, sopralluoghi, partecipazione a convegni e conferenze. |
| Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento | L’esame prevede il superamento di un colloquio in cui si valuterà l’adeguata conoscenza dei contenuti, la chiarezza espositiva e la capacità di orientarsi in maniera autonoma nell’utilizzo di alcuni degli strumenti per lo studio della Storia dell’arte moderna. Il voto finale sarà calcolato nel seguente modo: - Mancato superamento dell’esame: il candidato non raggiunge alcun obiettivo formativo; - Da 18 a 20: Livello appena sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge solo i risultati previsti al punto “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”; - Da 21 a 23: Livello pienamente sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge, in particolare, i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione” e “applicazione di conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”; - Da 24 a 26: Livello buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate” e “autonomia di giudizio”; - Da 27 a 29: Livello molto buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate”, “autonomia di giudizio” e “abilità comunicative”; - 30: Livello elevato. Il candidato raggiunge pienamente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti i punti; - 30 e lode: Livello eccellente. Il candidato raggiunge in maniera eccellente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti i punti. |
| Altre informazioni | Ulteriori materiali di studio verranno indicati direttamente agli studenti durante il corso. Dati gli argomenti trattati, è fortemente consigliata la frequentazione del corso oltre alla partecipazione ai sopralluoghi programmati. Il calendario dei sopralluoghi sarà fornito durante le lezioni, e in considerazione delle esigenze didattiche complessive. Gli studenti non frequentanti sono tenuti a concordare col docente preventivamente il programma con le integrazioni. |
| Programma esteso | L'insegnamento si propone di approfondire le conoscenze sulla produzione artistica legata al potere e alla propaganda. Ci si soffermerà, in particolare, sulle dinastie che hanno regnato al Sud Italia nei secoli XVIII e XIX. Verranno offerti spunti di riflessione sulla rappresentazione femminile del potere, sulle tipologie iconografiche maggiormente utilizzate, nonché sulla produzione non ufficiale, quella satirica e quella relativa alla fortuna visiva che coinvolge mezzi espressivi più moderni come il fumetto e il cinema. |

| Course objectives | Knowledge and skills to be acquired: 1. Knowledge and ability to critically analyze the basic connections between artistic production and society in the modern age, with an overview of media aesthetics. 2. Knowledge and understanding applied to the reading of works of art and products of the cultural industry from the 18th century to the contemporary era. 3. Independent judgment in combining historical, critical, and technical information regarding the transformations that have occurred in the artistic field in Europe. Ability to organize an independent path to understanding and describing the phenomena studied. Understanding the structures of historiographical conception in cultural products linked to the mass media (particularly cinema). 4. Communication skills in presenting the program topics through appropriate and correct use of Italian, English, French, and Spanish, at least in the pronunciation of terms, titles of works, and names heard during lectures or read in exam texts. 5. Ability to learn the fundamental elements of the subject to a degree that allows for further studies, with the possibility of undertaking a degree thesis. |
| Prerequisites | Good knowledge of modern history and the history of modern and contemporary art. Reading texts related to royalty is recommended, such as G. Sodano, "Elisabetta Farnese. Duchessa di Parma, regina consorte di Spagna, matrona d'Europa," Rome, Salerno Editrice, 2022. |
| Teaching methods | Lectures, exercises/seminars, site visits, participation in conferences and conventions. |
| Assessment methods | Exams consist of an interview. Adequate knowledge of contents, abilities in oral expression and orientation on the Social Art History will be valued. Student evaluation is based on the application of oral assessment procedures which reflect the level of course content attainment and the fulfilment of course requirements. The level of overall student achievement and performance is assigned according to a numerical scale and considers the following criteria: Below 18/30 mark: Fail. The student has not successfully achieved any of the course objectives; - From 18 to 20: Fair achievement level. The student has only partially reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are narrowly aligned with the category of "knowledge and understanding"; - From 21 to 23: Sufficient achievement level. The student has acceptably reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding" and "application of knowledge and understanding"; - 24 to 26: Good achievement level. The student has effectively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding" and "autonomy of judgment"; - From 27 to 29: Very good achievement level. The student has successively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are fully aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding", "autonomy of judgment" and "communication skills"; - 30: Excellent achievement level. The student’s excellent performance has resulted in the full achievement of course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with all the categories; - 30 cum laude: Outstanding achievement level. The student excels in the discipline, thus fully reaching all course objectives and mastering expected learning outcomes within all categories. |
| Other information | Additional study materials will be provided directly to students during the course. Given the topics covered, attendance is strongly recommended, as well as participation in the scheduled field trips. The field trip schedule will be provided during class, taking into account overall learning needs. Non-attending students are required to discuss the program and any additional activities with the instructor in advance. |
| Detailed syllabus | The course aims to deepen knowledge of artistic production linked to power and propaganda. Special attention will be paid to the dynasties that ruled Southern Italy in the 18th and 19th centuries. Reflections will be offered on the female representation of power, the most commonly used iconographic typologies, as well as informal and satirical art and visual influences involving more modern media such as comics and cinema. |
