Il corso di Letteratura Inglese propone un percorso tematico e storico finalizzato a far conoscere agli studenti i principali autori e le opere più significative della tradizione letteraria statunitense, in un costante dialogo comparativo con la produzione letteraria Britannica, integrando anche l'analisi delle caratteristiche testuali, funzionali, grammaticali, fonetiche e morfologiche della lingua inglese. Il programma, articolato in macro-tematiche, propone uno studio comparato delle opere narrative (racconti e romanzi) dal primo Novecento fino ai giorni nostri. Particolare attenzione sarà inoltre riservata all’analisi delle due principali varietà della lingua inglese: l’inglese britannico e l’inglese americano.

Il testo utilizzato durante il corso è lo Student’s Study Pack intitolato “A Cross-Cultural Approach to the Study of American and British Literature” (M. Rasulo), disponibile sulla piattaforma MICROSOFT TEAMS nella classe virtuale del corso. Si aggiungeranno ulteriori materiali didattici forniti dalla docente durante le lezioni e scaricabili dalla piattaforma. Gli obiettivi formativi sono formulati in base ai descrittori di Dublino: 1. Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione: comprendere il testo letterario dal punto di vista lessico-sintattico; comprendere elementi della lingua straniera nelle due principali varietà (inglese britannico e inglese americano). 2. Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione: analizzare i testi letterari nel loro contesto storico, culturale e geografico; tradurre passaggi significativi dei testi. 3. Autonomia di giudizio: sviluppare capacità critica nella descrizione dei fenomeni letterari. 4. Abilità comunicative : rielaborare e comunicare i contenuti letterari sia in forma orale sia in forma scritta. 5. Capacità di apprendimento: sviluppare conoscenze disciplinari in autonomia e in modo auto-diretto, anche attraverso la partecipazione a progetti di produzione di materiali.

Conoscenza della lingua straniera di livello B1+ del Quadro di riferimento Europeo (CEF). Durante il cosro, gli studenti saranno guidati da un costante supporto linguistico per facilitare la comprensione dei contenuti.

Si consiglia l'utilizzo di grammatiche e dizionari di riferimento reperibili online

L'insegnamento prevede una prova orale riguardante i contenuti del corso. La valutazione complessiva si basa sui seguenti aspetti generali: 1. capacità di esprimersi correttamente in lingua inglese; 2. conoscenza dei contenuti; 3. coerenza e la completezza delle risposte. Il voto è attribuito in trentesimi in base alla seguente griglia: - Mancato superamento dell’esame: il candidato non raggiunge alcun obiettivo formativo; - Da 18 a 20: Livello appena sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge solo i risultati previsti al punto “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”; - Da 21 a 23: Livello pienamente sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge, in particolare, i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione” e “applicazione di conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”; - Da 24 a 26: Livello buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate” e “autonomia di giudizio”; - Da 27 a 29: Livello molto buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate”, “autonomia di giudizio” e “abilità comunicative” - 30: Livello elevato. Il candidato raggiunge pienamente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti I punti - 30 e lode: Livello eccellente. Il corso di Letteratura Inglese propone un percorso comparativo su racconti e romanzi di autori americani, con riferimento ai loro contemporanei britannici, dal primo Novecento a oggi. Mira a sviluppare la comprensione testuale, le capacità di analisi critica e le competenze comunicative in lingua inglese, approfondendo le due varietà principali della lingua (inglese britannico e americano). Sono previsti momenti di lezioni frontali in modalità workshop, utilizzando una varieta' di materiali di supporto (presentazioni, sintesi, glossari). La valutazione avviene tramite esame orale basato sulla padronanza dei contenuti, la correttezza linguistica e la coerenza espositiva.

The English Literature course offers a thematic and historical overview aimed at introducing students to the main authors and most significant works of the American literary tradition, in constant dialogue with the British literary production. The course also focuses on the analysis of the textual, functional, grammatical, phonetic, and morphological characteristics of the English language. The program, divided into macro-themes, offers a comparative study of narrative works (short stories and novels) from the early 20th century to the present day. Particular attention will also be paid to the analysis of the two main varieties of the English language: British English and American English.

The main course textbook is the Student’s Study Pack: M. Rasulo, “A Cross-Cultural Approach to the Study of American and British Literature” (M. Rasulo), available on MICROSOFT TEAMS. Additional study material will be provided during the course. The course objectives are designed according to the Dublin descriptors; their main aim is to facilitate the acquisition of the following skills: 1. Knowledge and understanding - understand a literary text in terms of its linguistic content; - understand the lexical and syntactic elements of both varieties of the English language (American and British); 2. Applying knowledge and understanding - analyze literary texts within their historical, cultural, and literary background; - produce a translation of representative excerpts; 3. Making judgments - formulate critical opinions of the literary phenomena described in the texts; 4. Communication - produce oral and written re-elaborations/summaries of the analyzed text; 5. Lifelong learning skills - Develop knowledge acquired through autonomous and self-directed learning; - Conduct individual research projects on the course topics.

The level for course attendance is B1+ of the CEF. All 4 language skills will be developed during the entire course to facilitate the understanding of course materials.

1. Lectures supported by workshop/task-based activities; 2. Integration of seminars and self-study components regarding specific course themes; 3. The following teaching materials facilitate access to course materials and acquisition of knowledge: - Summaries of course chapters from the study pack (synopsis of all literary works; overview of historical and literary periods); - PowerPoint presentations of the lessons; 4. Online grammars and dictionaries are strongly suggested.

Exam description and requirements. Student evaluation is based on an oral interview and takes into consideration the following general aspects: 1. Language performance; 2. Knowledge of course content (satisfactory and coherent response to all questions asked during the exam). The level of overall student achievement and performance is assigned according to a numerical assessment scale based on the following criteria: - Below 18/30 mark: Fail. The student has not successfully achieved any of the course objectives. - From 18 to 20: Fair achievement level. The student has only partially reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are narrowly aligned with the category of knowledge and understanding. - From 21 to 23: Sufficient achievement level. The student has acceptably reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of knowledge and understanding; application of knowledge and understanding - From 24 to 26: Good achievement level. The student has effectively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding", and "autonomy of judgement"; - From 27 to 29: Very good achievement level. The student has successively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are fully aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding", "autonomy of judgement", and "communication skills"; - 30: Excellent achievement level. The student’s excellent performance has resulted in the full achievement of course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with all the categories; - 30 cum laude: Outstanding achievement level. The student excels in the discipline, thus fully reaching all course objectives and mastering expected learning outcomes within all categories.

Non-attending students, as well as ERASMUS students, are required to follow the regular program but must contact the professor for information on any additional course content.

The English Literature course offers a comparative program of short stories and novels by American authors, with reference to their British contemporaries, from the early twentieth century to the present. It aims to develop text comprehension, critical analysis skills, and English language communication competence, with a focus on the two main varieties (British and American English). Teaching methods include workshop-style lectures with the support of a variety of teaching materials (presentations, summaries, glossaries). Student assessment consists of an oral exam that evaluates content mastery, language accuracy, and the coherence of answers.
