L'approccio metodologico seguito durante il corso si basa sui principi dell’English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Il programma è suddiviso in macro-argomenti relativi alla storia dell’arte e all’archeologia, affrontati esclusivamente in lingua inglese: 1. Art History and Intercultural Communication 2. Art Appreciation 3. The Role of the Artist 4. Artistic Movements 5. Famous Museums 6. Art and the Media: World Wide Web, Social Media, Traditional Media 7. Art and Inclusive Language 8. Multimodal Analysis of Adverts, Paintings, and Websites 9. Archaeology: Major Sites and Landmarks, and the Role of the Archaeologist Lo studio di questi macro-argomenti sarà condotto attraverso l'implementazione di strategie di rielaborazione, sintesi e traduzione dei contenuti specifici, al fine di facilitare l’acquisizione di abilità linguistiche fondamentali per l’approfondimento della lingua anche in altri contesti professionali. Verranno pertanto esaminate le caratteristiche testuali, funzionali, grammaticali, fonetiche e morfologiche della lingua inglese.

I materiali di studio sono contenuti nello Student's Studypack intitolato “A cross-cultural approach to the language of Art” (M. Rasulo), reso disponibile nella classe virtuale del corso sulla piattaforma di MICROSOFT TEAMS. Con riferimento ai descrittori di Dublino, al termine del corso gli studenti dovranno aver acquisito le seguenti abilità: 1. Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione - comprendere testi scritti, orali e digitali inerenti a contesti sia generali sia disciplinari legati alla storia dell’arte; -riconoscere ed elaborare strutture lessicali e sintattiche della lingua inglese. 2. Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione: - produrre testi orali e scritti relativi a tematiche artistiche e culturali; - utilizzare in modo appropriato strutture lessicali e sintattiche della lingua inglese; - applicare strategie traduttive per analizzare e interpretare opere d’arte, eventi culturali e materiali specialistici. 3. Autonomia di giudizio - interpretare e valutare in modo autonomo messaggi artistici in forma scritta, orale e multimodale. 4. Abilità comunicative - descrivere e commentare in maniera chiara, semplice e corretta in lingua inglese contenuti legati a prodotti e fenomeni artistici, in tutte le loro forme espressive. 5. Capacità di apprendimento - sviluppare e potenziare le proprie conoscenze disciplinari in modo autonomo e auto-diretto, anche finalizzandole alla produzione di materiali specifici per la divulgazione o la valorizzazione del patrimonio artistico.

Per seguire proficuamente il corso, si richiede la conoscenza della lingua straniera di livello B1 Plus del Quadro di riferimento Europeo (CEF). Un costante supporto linguistico necessario affinché si possa facilitare l’acquisizione del linguaggio specifico sara' fornito durante il corso.

1. Lezioni frontali con l’utilizzo del modello 'task-based workshop'; 2. Integrazione di seminari su tematiche specifiche; 2. Supporto linguistico a sportello su piattaforma; 3. L'acquisizione dei contenuti è facilitata dal seguente materiale didattico: - Presentazioni PowerPoint; - Sintesi delle opere analizzate; - Sintesi dei periodi storico-letterari. Si consiglia l'utilizzo di grammatiche e dizionari di riferimento reperibili online

L'insegnamento prevede una prova orale sui contenuti del corso. La valutazione di basera' sui seguenti aspetti: 1. capacità di esprimersi correttamente in lingua inglese; 2. conoscenza dei contenuti; coerenza e completezza delle risposte. Il voto è attribuito in trentesimi in base alla seguente griglia: - Mancato superamento dell’esame: il candidato non raggiunge alcun obiettivo formativo; - Da 18 a 20: Livello appena sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge solo i risultati previsti al punto “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”; - Da 21 a 23: Livello pienamente sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge, in particolare, i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione” e “applicazione di conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”; - Da 24 a 26: Livello buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate” e “autonomia di giudizio”; - Da 27 a 29: Livello molto buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate”, “autonomia di giudizio” e “abilità comunicative” - 30: Livello elevato. Il candidato raggiunge pienamente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti I punti - 30 e lode: Livello eccellente. Il corso, basato sui principi dell’English for Specific Purposes (ESP), ha l’obiettivo di sviluppare competenze linguistiche e comunicative nell’ambito della storia dell’arte e dell’archeologia. Affronta macro-argomenti come la storia dell’arte e la comunicazione interculturale, l’apprezzamento artistico, il ruolo dell’artista, i movimenti artistici, i musei più importanti, arte e media (inclusi social e media digitali), arte e linguaggio inclusivo, l’analisi multimodale di opere, pubblicità e siti web, nonché un’introduzione all’archeologia e ai principali siti di interesse. Il corso favorisce l’apprendimento del linguaggio specialistico attraverso attività di rielaborazione, sintesi e traduzione, potenziando la capacità di comprendere, descrivere e interpretare fenomeni artistici e culturali. Lo studio dell’inglese sarà approfondito nelle sue caratteristiche testuali, funzionali, grammaticali, fonetiche e morfologiche. Il livello linguistico richiesto per seguire il corso è B1 Plus (CEFR). Le metodologie didattiche prevedono lezioni frontali in modalità workshop, seminari, supporto individuale su piattaforma con l'utilizzo di materiali didattici come presentazioni PowerPoint, sintesi e testi di riferimento consigliati. La valutazione avviene mediante una prova orale che verifica correttezza linguistica, padronanza dei contenuti e coerenza delle risposte, secondo una scala in trentesimi. Il materiale principale è disponibile nello Student’s Study Pack (“A cross-cultural approach to the language of Art” di M. Rasulo) sulla piattaforma Microsoft Teams, con un testo di approfondimento suggerito (The Short Story of Art di Susie Hodge). Gli studenti non frequentanti ed ERASMUS seguiranno il programma regolare e dovranno contattare la docente per eventuali ulteriori indicazioni.

The methodological approach adopted during the course is based on the principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). The syllabus is divided into macro thematic aareas related to art history and archaeology whose content is delivered entirely in English: 1. Art History and Intercultural Communication 2. Art Appreciation 3. The Role of the Artist 4. Art Movements 5. Famous Museums 6. Art and the Media: World Wide Web, Social Media, Traditional Media, Art and gender studies, Art and politics 7. Multimodal Analysis of Adverts, Paintings, and Websites 8. Archaeology: Major Sites and Landmarks, and the Role of the Archaeologist These macro thematic areas will be explored through the implementation of strategies of re-elaboration, summary, and translation of specific content to facilitate the acquisition of essential language skills applied to other professional contexts. The course will therefore examine the textual, functional, grammatical, phonological, and morphological features of the English language.

Course materials are included in the Student's Study Pack entitled "A cross-cultural approach to the language of Art ” (M. Rasulo). The study pack is available in the course's virtual classroom on the MICROSOFT TEAMS platform. Additional reference text only for further study (to be confirmed at the beginning of the course): Hodge, Susie(2017). With reference to the Dublin descriptors, by the end of the course, students should have acquired the following skills: 1. Knowledge and understanding - understand written, oral, and digital texts related to both general and discipline-specific contexts in art history; - recognize and process lexical and syntactic structures of the English language. 2. Applying knowledge and understanding - produce oral and written texts related to artistic and cultural topics; - appropriately use lexical and syntactic structures of the English language; - apply translation strategies to analyze and interpret artworks, cultural events, and specialized materials. 3. Making judgments - independently interpret and evaluate artistic messages in written, oral, and multimodal forms. 4. Communication skills - clearly, simply, and accurately describe and comment in English on the content of artistic products and phenomena, in all their expressive forms. 5. Learning skills - develop and enhance subject-specific knowledge autonomously and in a self-directed way, also to produce materials aimed at disseminating or promoting artistic heritage.

In order to successfully follow the course, a knowledge of the foreign language at a B1 Plus level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) is required. The professor provides the necessary language support to facilitate the acquisition of specialized language during the course.

1. Lectures supported by workshop/task-based activities; 2. Integration of seminars and self-study components regarding specific course themes; 3. The following teaching materials facilitate access to course materials and acquisition of knowledge: - Summaries of course chapters from the study pack (synopsis of all literary works; overview of historical and literary periods); - PowerPoint presentations of the lessons; 4. Online grammars and dictionaries are strongly suggested.

Exam description and requirements. Student evaluation is based on an oral interview and takes into consideration the following general aspects: 1. Language performance; 2. Knowledge of course content (satisfactory and coherent response to all questions asked during the exam). The level of overall student achievement and performance is assigned according to a numerical assessment scale based on the following criteria: - Below 18/30 mark: Fail. The student has not successfully achieved any of the course objectives. - From 18 to 20: Fair achievement level. The student has only partially reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are narrowly aligned with the category of knowledge and understanding. - From 21 to 23: Sufficient achievement level. The student has acceptably reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of knowledge and understanding; application of knowledge and understanding - From 24 to 26: Good achievement level. The student has effectively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding", and "autonomy of judgement"; - From 27 to 29: Very good achievement level. The student has successively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are fully aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding", "autonomy of judgement", and "communication skills"; - 30: Excellent achievement level. The student’s excellent performance has resulted in the full achievement of course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with all the categories; - 30 cum laude: Outstanding achievement level. The student excels in the discipline, thus fully reaching all course objectives and mastering expected learning outcomes within all categories.

Non-attending students, as well as ERASMUS students, are required to follow the regular program but must contact the professor for information on any additional course content.

This course, based on the principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP), is aimed at developing students’ linguistic and communicative skills in the field of art history and archaeology. It covers macro-topics such as art history and intercultural communication, art appreciation, the role of the artist, artistic movements, famous museums, art and media (including social and digital media), art and inclusive language, multimodal analysis of artworks, and an introduction to archaeology and its main sites. Students will work with specialized language through re-elaboration, synthesis, and translation tasks, developing skills to understand, describe, and interpret artistic and cultural phenomena. The study of English will focus on textual, functional, grammatical, phonological, and morphological features. Teaching methods include lectures with a task-based workshop approach, seminars, individual support sessions, and self-study, supported by resources such as PowerPoint presentations, summaries, and recommended reference texts. The required proficiency for attending the course is B1 Plus (CEFR). Assessment consists of an oral examination focused on language accuracy, content mastery, and coherent answers, graded on a 30-point scale.
