I risultati di apprendimento attesi, definiti secondo i parametri europei esemplificati nei cinque descrittori di Dublino (2004), sono:
1. Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione: tracciare i caratteri distintivi dei diversi periodi e generi letterari e il profilo bio-bibliografico di alcuni autori rappresentativi
2. Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione: individuare le interrelazioni complessive tra politica, cultura, lingua e letteratura; individuare elementi di novità rispetto ai precedenti classici e cristiani; leggere e comprendere testi in lingua originale
3. Autonomia di giudizio: interpretare in modo corretto i dati e le problematiche illustrate durante il corso; formulare un’ipotesi di ricerca in maniera autonoma e proporre diverse ipotesi di soluzioni
4. Abilità comunicative: utilizzare gli elementi fondamentali della terminologia tecnica della disciplina
5. Capacità di apprendimento: elaborazione critica delle tematiche proprie della disciplina; capacità di accesso autonomo ai principali strumenti di approfondimento scientifico; istituire confronti e paralleli con le altre materie del Corso di Studio

Si presuppone la conoscenza della lingua latina; è raccomandata una conoscenza di base di letteratura latina classica e di storia medievale.

Lezioni frontali (30 ore)

L’esame prevede una verifica delle capacità dello studente:
- di descrivere i principali caratteri della cultura letteraria dell'autore
- di tradurre e commentare i testi selezionati

Il voto finale sarà calcolato nel seguente modo:
- Mancato superamento dell’esame: il candidato non raggiunge alcun obiettivo formativo;
- Da 18 a 20: Livello appena sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge solo i risultati previsti al punto “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”;
- Da 21 a 23: Livello pienamente sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge, in particolare, i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione” e “applicazione di conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”;
- Da 24 a 26: Livello buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate” e “autonomia di giudizio”;
- Da 27 a 29: Livello molto buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate”, “autonomia di giudizio” e “abilità comunicative”
- 30: Livello elevato. Il candidato raggiunge pienamente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti I punti
- 30 e lode: Livello eccellente. Il candidato raggiunge in maniera eccellente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti I punti.

The expected learning outcomes, defined according to the European parameters exemplified in the five Dublin descriptors (2004), are:
1. Knowledge and understanding: to trace the distinctive features of the different literary periods and genres and the bio-bibliographical profile of some representative authors
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: to identify the overall interrelationships between politics, culture, language and literature; to identify elements of novelty with respect to classical and Christian precedents; to read and understand texts in the original language
3. Autonomy of judgement: to correctly interpret the data and problems illustrated during the course; to formulate a research hypothesis independently and to propose various hypotheses for solutions
4. Communication skills: using the fundamental elements of the technical terminology of the discipline
5. Learning skills: critical elaboration of the themes inherent to the discipline; ability to independently access the main tools of scientific investigation; establish comparisons and parallels with the other subjects of the course

Latin language knowledge is required; basic knowledge of ancient latin literature and of medieval history is also recommended.

Lectures (30 hours)

written (essay questions, time: 45 min., vocabulary not allowed) or oral (interview)

Students will be examined in their skills to:
1) describe the main features of the author's literary culture;
2) translate, and comment upon the selected texts.

The level of overall student achievement and performance is assigned according to a numerical scale and considers the following criteria:
Below 18/30 mark: Fail. The student has not successfully achieved any of the course objectives;
- From 18 to 20: Fair achievement level. The student has only partially reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are narrowly aligned with the category of "knowledge and understanding";
- From 21 to 23: Sufficient achievement level. The student has acceptably reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding" and "application of knowledge and understanding";
- 24 to 26: Good achievement level. The student has effectively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding" and "autonomy of judgement";
- From 27 to 29: Very good achievement level. The student has successively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are fully aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding", "autonomy of judgement" and "communication skills" ;
- 30: Excellent achievement level. The student’s excellent performance has resulted in the full achievement of course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with all the categories;
- 30 cum laude: Outstanding achievement level. The student excels in the discipline, thus fully reaching all course objectives and mastering expected learning outcomes within all categories.
