Parte A) La parte (A) del corso è finalizzata in primo luogo a rendere gli/le studenti consapevoli delle diverse concezioni teoriche e metodologiche che hanno informato la storia della linguistica della seconda parte dell’Ottocento e del Novecento. Attraverso un approccio di tipo storico, si intende altresì porre l'attenzione su costrutti e problemi di carattere generale che hanno attraversato la storia della disciplina e ancora oggi caratterizzano lo studio del linguaggio. Parte B) La parte (B) del corso si propone l'obiettivo di introdurre gli/le studenti ai principi dell'analisi tipologica, alla descrizione delle caratteristiche della categoria grammaticale di Persona nelle lingue del mondo e ai problemi teorico-metodologici ad essa connessi. Parte C) La parte (C) del corso si propone di introdurre in modo critico ai fondamenti della linguistica gli studenti che non si sono confrontati con la disciplina nel loro percorso triennale.

Part A — History of Linguistic Thought This section of the course is designed to provide students with an informed understanding of the various theoretical and methodological frameworks that have shaped the development of linguistic thought from the second half of the 19th century through the 20th century. Adopting a historical perspective, the course also focuses on the general constructs and enduring issues that have accompanied the evolution of the discipline and continue to play a central role in contemporary studies of language. Part B — Linguistic Typology: The Category of Person The aim of this section is to introduce students to the principles of linguistic typology, with particular attention to the description and analysis of the grammatical category of Person across the world’s languages. The course will address both the descriptive features of this category and the theoretical and methodological issues associated with its analysis from a cross-linguistic perspective. Part C — Foundations of Linguistics (for students without prior coursework in General Linguistics) This section is intended to offer a critical introduction to the fundamental concepts and principles of linguistics for students who have not previously undertaken formal coursework in the discipline during their undergraduate studies. Emphasis will be placed on building a solid foundation for further study and understanding of linguistic theory and analysis.
