Saranno forniti i principi fondamentali della tecnica edilizia nell’antichità, con particolare
riferimento all’evoluzione tecnica e architettonica. Il corso si articola in tematiche relative a principi
di statica elementare, ai sistemi
costruttivi nell’ambito dell’architettura romana (materiali utilizzati, attività in cava, cantieri e
procedimenti costruttivi), alle tecniche edilizie (individuazione delle variabili legate ai
condizionamenti imposti dalla morfologia dei siti e dalla disponibilità dei materiali da costruzione).
Esemplificazioni di problematiche relative alla corretta lettura di strutture antiche sono previste in
aula con proiezioni di immagini. Parte integrante del corso sarà la presentazione delle line generali della metodologia della
documentazione grafica come strumento di lettura delle architetture antiche: metodologie
del rilievo diretto attraverso lezioni teoriche in aula ed esercitazioni di rilievo diretto su un
monumento da definire. Il modulo prevede lezioni in aula sulle tecniche edilizie che verteranno
pertanto sugli aspetti strutturali degli edifici antichi, con particolare attenzione ad alcune
testimonianze architettoniche maggiormente significative.

Il modulo vuole fornire le conoscenze necessarie per la lettura
dell’architettura antica, e per la definizione della funzionalità delle strutture residuali, attraverso il
rilievo diretto e l’analisi dei resti archeologici.
In riferimento ai descrittori di Dublino saranno acquisiti:
1) Buona conoscenza e capacità di comprensione dei principi fondamentali della tecnica
edilizia antica.
2) Buona conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate alle metodologie di studio di un
monumento antico ed in particolare alle metodologie del rilievo diretto.
3) Autonomia di giudizio nella individuazione delle variabili legate ai condizionamenti
morfologici e disponibilità dei materiali da costruzione
4) Abilità comunicative delle problematiche relative alla corretta lettura di strutture antiche
adoperando terminologia specifica.
5) Ampia capacità di apprendere le tematiche relative a principi di statica elementare e alle
tecniche edilizie.

Conoscenza delle problematiche storico-topografiche del mondo antico

Lezioni frontali, esercitazioni/seminari, sopralluoghi, partecipazione a convegni e conferenze.

Modalità di esame:esame orale e valutazione del prodotto grafico (elaborato grafico:pianta con caratterizzazione archeologica di un edificio o parte di esso di interesse archeologico realizzata dallo studente; elaborato testuale di accompagnamento: analisi tecnica della struttura in esame alla luce del rilievo eseguito)
Criteri di valutazione: La valutazione dell'esame avverrà sulla base della coerenza delle risposte,
tenendo conto della completezza delle conoscenze specifiche del candidato, e sulla base della
correttezza linguistica.

Il voto finale sarà calcolato nel seguente modo:
- Mancato superamento dell’esame: il candidato non raggiunge alcun obiettivo formativo;
- Da 18 a 20: Livello appena sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge solo i risultati previsti al punto “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”;
- Da 21 a 23: Livello pienamente sufficiente. Il candidato raggiunge, in particolare, i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione” e“applicazione di conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”;
- Da 24 a 26: Livello buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate” e “autonomia di giudizio”;
- Da 27 a 29: Livello molto buono. Il candidato raggiunge i risultati di apprendimento previsti ai punti “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione”, “conoscenza e capacità di comprensione applicate”, “autonomia di giudizio”e “abilità comunicative”
- 30: Livello elevato. Il candidato raggiunge pienamente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti I punti
- 30 e lode: Livello eccellente. Il candidato raggiunge in maniera eccellente i risultati di apprendimento previsti in tutti I punti.

La realizzazione di un rilievo (pianta) tratto da una
struttura antica è obbligatoria per sostenere l’esame. Gli studenti impossibilitati a partecipare alle
esercitazioni possono concordare con il docente un rilievo su un monumento diverso da quello
affrontato durante il corso. Ulteriori indicazioni bibliografiche, anche relative al monumento che
sarà oggetto di rilievo e studio per il modulo, saranno comunicate durante il corso.

The fundamental principles of building technique in antiquity will be provided, with a focus on technical and architectural evolution. The course is divided into topics related to principles
of elementary statics, to the systems
construction in the context of Roman architecture (materials used, quarrying activities, construction sites and
construction procedures), building techniques (identification of the variables linked to
conditions imposed by the morphology of the sites and the availability of building materials).
Examples of problems related to the correct reading of ancient structures are provided in
classroom with image projections. The methodology of of the
graphic documentation, as the main tool for reading ancient architecture, will be the main topic of the course: methodologies
of the direct survey through theoretical lessons in the classroom and direct relief exercises on a
monument to be defined. The module includes classroom lessons on the building techniques that will be used
therefore on the structural aspects of ancient buildings, with particular attention to some
more significant architectural testimonies.

During the lessons, the teacher will indicate bibliographic updates and further readings on construction techniques. Literary sources: selected passages by Vitruvius and Leon Battista Alberti will be recommended during the course.

The module wants to provide the knowledge needed for the reading
of ancient architecture, and for the definition of the functionality of residual structures, through the
direct survey and analysis of archaeological remains.
In reference to the Dublin descriptors will be acquired:
1) Good knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of the technique
ancient building.
2) Good knowledge and understanding skills applied to the study methodologies of a
ancient monument and in particular to the methods of direct survey.
3) Independent judgment in the identification of the variables related to
morphological conditions and availability of building materials
4) Communication skills related to the correct reading of ancient structures
using specific terminology.
5) Wide capacity to learn the issues related to principles of elementary statics and to
building techniques.

Knowledge of the historical-topographical problems of the ancient world

Lectures, exercises / seminars, inspections, participation in conventions and conferences.

Type of exam: oral examination and evaluation of the graphic product (graphic design: plant with archaeological characterization of a building or part of it of archaeological interest made by the student; essay about the monument: technical analysis of the structure under examination in light of the survey performed)
Evaluation criteria: The evaluation of the exam will be based on the consistency of the answers,
considering the completeness of the candidate's specific knowledge, and the
linguistic correctness.

Assessment Criteria
The level of overall student achievement and performance is assigned according to a numerical scale and considers the following criteria:
Below 18/30 mark: Fail. The student has not successfully achieved any of the course objectives;
- From 18 to 20: Fair achievement level. The student has only partially reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are narrowly aligned with the category of "knowledge and understanding";
- From 21 to 23: Sufficient achievement level. The student has acceptably reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding" and "application of knowledge and understanding";
- 24 to 26: Good achievement level. The student has effectively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding" and "autonomy of judgement";
- From 27 to 29: Very good achievement level. The student has successively reached course objectives; the learning outcomes are fully aligned with the categories of "knowledge and understanding", "application of knowledge and understanding", "autonomy of judgement" and "communication skills" ;
- 30: Excellent achievement level. The student’s excellent performance has resulted in the full achievement of course objectives; the learning outcomes are aligned with all the categories;
- 30 cum laude: Outstanding achievement level. The student excels in the discipline, thus fully reaching all course objectives and mastering expected learning outcomes within all categories.

The realization of a relief (plan) taken from a
ancient structure is mandatory to take the exam. Students unable to attend
exercises must agree with the teacher on another monument, different from the one
studied during the course. Further bibliographical indications, also concerning the monument which
it will be object of relief and of study for the module, will be communicated during the course.

An integral part of the course will be the graphic documentation methodology as the main tool for reading ancient architecture: direct survey methodologies through theoretical lectures in the classroom and direct relief exercises on a monument to be defined for the construction of a plant (1 CFU).
